About Us

The Arkansas Osteopathic Medical Association (AOMA) was founded in 1980 when about five doctors from various areas of the state met in a hotel lobby in Little Rock, Arkansas and decided it was time for osteopathic physicians of Arkansas to have a professional organization and home.  With the help of the late Bob Jones, former executive director of the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association, the idea of the AOMA was realized, yielding new relationships and future leaders of the AOA.  This new home would serve as a tool for the advancement of osteopathic medicine and the practicing osteopathic physician and ultimately helping enhance healthcare in Arkansas.

As an affiliate of the American Osteopathic Association, the AOMA is a true voluntary professional association and continues to exist in order to promote the causes, purposes, and goals of the osteopathic profession in Arkansas.  As a state organization OF physicians of osteopathic medicine (DOs), BY osteopathic physicians, and FOR osteopathic physicians, we premise that the individual’s interests are best served with unified effort and support in an association.

The AOMA is governed by a Board of Trustees and Officers nominated annually to conduct the association’s business between members' election ballots.  The Board of Trustees engages a professional full-time staff to manage the everyday and ongoing business of the association. The AOMA's business is for the benefit of individual members, the osteopathic profession, its institutions and other affiliated organizations as well as the public served by osteopathic medicine in Arkansas.
